Behind Closed Doors by B.A. ParisMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
I would have missed such a perfect gem of a thriller if I hadn't taken the time to go against my gut instinct and become seduced with the back cover blurb.
Grace is a wonderfully perfect wife with the perfect husband, sister and life. But what the people around the couple don't see is the supressed fear and desperation or the psychological torture she goes through on a daily basis...
Paris' voice in this work is just stunning, even to the point of my not believing it's her first work. The narrative invites you in and you keep getting pulled back by the unease of the little hints being dropped here and there. It's a twisting narrative, players that are VERY well fleshed out to the point that I was actually talking to my Kindle and yelling at the antagonist. It's not often I actually get attatched to a character but Grace and Mollie....well, it was almost as if I couldn't help it. Just like Jack steers his plans and uses psychology to make his traps it feels like Paris also managed to steer and convince me to fall in love with this book. I've no problem with that, tho.
I can't go too far in to detail because too much about the plot will unravel things and this is a book you need to read for yourself.
It's an amazing debut novel that you shouldn't miss if you have even the slightest shread of interest in to psychological thrillers.
