First time reading Burke but I'm sure it won't be the last.
Yes, some of the book was predictable about half way or so through, like mentioned by another reviewer. But there were so many twists and turns with well fleshed characters so I don't mind having keened on to some of the endpoint. I wound up being pulled in to the personalities of the players to the point that I was yelling at my Kindle when something happened, not a thing I usually do to be honest. Burke peppered enough detail in to her work to really pull me in to the story which is another big thing for me with fiction.
The narrative was very smooth and mood was perfect. No issues with suspension of disbelief, a very important issue with me as I'm far more of a non fiction reader. It was also no problem to read it out of the series order which can usually be a problem.
Will be reading the rest of the series soon because of this one.
