The Namesake by Jhumpa LahiriMy rating: 1 of 5 stars
I'll start out with something positive and say that I do like Lahiri's work overall. She's a wonderful writer and really brings her characters to life. The Namesake wasn't one of those works, however.
The protagonists just didn't have the personality and depth that's usually there. Add to that a plot that is, quite frankly, overdone ( Culture clash, oh no! Which part of my identity will win out?!? ) means that the story is going to be carried by the sheer existence of the players. Not a good thing considering that every single person in this narrative is one dimensional.
Read any other book by Lahiri, ANY, after you read Namesake and you'll see what I'm talking about.
