Shannon: Betrayed from Birth by Rose Martin

Shannon: Betrayed from BirthShannon: Betrayed from Birth by Rose Martin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A rather quick read ( if you don't keep getting interrupted like I did ) due to it's easy and well done narrative flow. Shannon tells the story of a mother unfit to be a parent: abusive, negligent and all over just trashy in her parenting. Instead of responsibility she sees only self-serving opportunities. So when she sees a chance to stage her daughter's abduction in order to raise then steal reward fund money she takes it. The true story of a mother's evil heart, the boyfriend who doesn't care about others and a would be kidnapping relative.

Crime writing can be very dry just because of the nature of the beast but Rose Martin manages to give enough information without getting bogged down, helps us to get closer to the players in the plot without bias or trying to sway our opinion. The focus of the book is not so much on the kidnapping itself, it's pretty cut and dry, but rather the adults involved and the mother in particular. Looking at the psychology of those involved but not to the point of bogging the reader down in theories and assumations.

Clear and clean, honest view of the events with a steady pace and good flow. Highly recommended for those who don't want a deep dissertation on every little detail but would rather just know what happened and why.
